Ferry Line Will Start Summer Trips To Islands

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) - A new ferry route will offer daily trips to Lake Erie's South Bass Island this summer.

The Island Rocket expects to begin operations by May 1, said Duane Ohly, president of Island Express Boat Lines Ltd.

The boat line signed a contract with Port Clinton officials on Tuesday. The company has agreed to run daily trips to Put-in-Bay from June 1 through Sept. 1, but plans to operate a longer schedule.

The Sandusky-based boat line plans to add a ticket office, passenger shelter and restroom facility at the Port Clinton pier, which had been used by the Jet Express boat line.

Jet Express moved its boat terminal last summer to a pier two blocks away.
