Delta Exits Chapter Eleven, Unveils New Look

ATLANTA (AP) - Delta Air Lines has emerged from bankruptcy protection.

During the 19-and-a-half-month reorganization, which included surviving a hostile takeover bid, Delta eliminated jobs, cut costs, restructured its fleet and focused more on international routes.

The nation's third-largest carrier has a new paint job for its planes. It features the company's three-dimensional red logo flying across a blue background. The new branding will appear on more than 900 planes, at airports and on Delta advertising.

Executives are considering whether to shed Comair, a Delta subsidiary that provides regional service for the airline.

Delta entered bankruptcy in September 2005 facing the burdens of high fuel prices, labor and pension expenses. Delta significantly reduced its labor and pension costs while under court protection.
