New Mayor Unveils City's Budget Plans On Friday

CLEVELAND – 19/43 News broke the story of Cleveland's nearly $60 million budget deficit on Monday, and on Friday, the city's residents are going to find out just how deep the cuts will go because of the money mess, 19/43 News reported.

Friday is when new Mayor Jane Campbell (pictured, above) will unveil her budget plans.

Former Mayor Michael White held a news conference on Wednesday to discuss his belief that he was actually leaving a surplus for the Campbell administration. He stuck to that interpretation, but Campbell's accountants insisted that rather than a nearly $12 million surplus, the city is in debt by more than $55 million.

Campbell wouldn't reveal specifics about her plans on Thursday, but she did say that the end result would not be pretty.

"It's going to be a tough budget," she said. "2002 is going to be a hard year for Cleveland."
