Cleveland, OH - The Northern Trek area of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will be closed Tuesday to allow for this evening's implosion of the Fulton Road Bridge. The rest of the Zoo will close as usual at 5 p.m. and open at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The blast is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m. The park is located on John Nagy Boulevard off of Ridge Road, and you should plan to arrive early, as parking is limited and traffic delays are likely.
As was done during the first demolition attempt last Saturday, the Zoo's animals will be kept inside their night quarters with their keepers nearby to monitor their safety and comfort. Only essential employees will be permitted inside the Zoo after 5 p.m. today, and no one will be allowed within 1,000 feet of the bridge.
Cleveland Metroparks Rangers will patrol the perimeter.
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has spent months preparing for the demolition, working closely with the Ohio Department of Transportation and taking extra precautions to protect its animals, employees, volunteers and visitors.
The Zoo's animals did well during last weekend's partial implosion of the bridge, and the Zoo expects the same this evening.
