After Prom Accident, Four Injured

Orange Township, OH - May 5th, 2007 at 11:39 p.m. troopers from the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to an injury crash which occurred on CR 801 North of CR 620 in Orange Township in Northern Ashland County.

The preliminary investigation indicates Brent Daugherty, age 18 from Polk, Ohio was operating a 1997 Dodge Stratus northbound on CR 801 and struck a deer attempting to cross the roadway.  Daugherty's vehicle continued northbound and drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.  The vehicle caught fire and emergency personnel from the Ashland Fire department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

A passenger in the vehicle, Karissa Gispon, age 17 of New London, Ohio was seated in the right front passenger seat and was pinned inside the vehicle.  The 2 other occupants of the vehicle, Roger Gipson age 20 of New London and Ashley Bagnoli, age 18 of Sullivan Ohio were able to free Karissa Gipson from the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived.

All occupants were transportetd to Ashland Samaritan Hospital by Ashland EMS. Daugherty and Karissa Gipson were then flown to Akron City Hospital by life-flight for their injuries.  Ashley Gagnoli and Roger Gipson were treated for their injuries at Ashland Samaritan Hospital.  Daugherty is listed in satisfactory condition and Karissa Gipson's condition remains unknown.  The conditions of Roger Gipson and Ashley Bagnoli also remain unknown.

The vehicle occupants were coming from the Mapleton High School Prom, which was at the high school about a half a mile south of the crash scene. 

All occupants were wearing their safety belts and there is no indication of alcohol involvement.  The crash remains under investigation.
