Indians Sign Olivares To Minor League Contract

CLEVELAND (AP) - Omar Olivares agreed Tuesday to a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians and was invited to spring training.

Olivares, 34, was 6-9 for Pittsburgh last year with a 6.55 ERA in 45 appearances.

He has a career record of 77-86 with an ERA of 4.67 in 349 appearances in 12 major league seasons. He pitched a three-hit shutout against the Indians on May 10, 1997, while with the Detroit Tigers.

The Indians now have 19 invitees to training camp in Winter Haven, Fla. Pitchers and catchers report to camp on Feb. 14.
