Police Say 2 Dead In Plane Crash Near Marysville

MARYSVILLE, Ohio (AP) - Police say the two men who died in this morning's plane crash near Marysville are from Punta Gorda, Florida.

State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Rick Zwayer says the pilot was 68-year-old Evan Wood -- and the passenger was 73-year-old Walter Buchholz.

Zwayer says their amateur-built R-V-7 aircraft took off early this morning from Bay City, Michigan.

He says Wood was probably bringing the plane into Union County Airport for refueling.

Airport manager Adam Gibson says the plane tried once to land at the airport -- making a low-flying pass over the runway.

The plane crashed soon after at about 8:30 a-m in a corn field about three-fourths of a mile from the airport.

Marysville is about 30 miles northwest of Columbus.
