Birth Control Pill That Eliminates Periods Wins FDA Approval

The FDA approved a new birth control pill that can completely stop a woman's menstrual cycle.

It is called Lybrel and is the first pill designed to be taken continuously.

Lybrel has the lowest dose of two hormones commonly used in birth control pills.

Taking the new drug would allow women to indefinitely suppress their period.

But officials say unexpected bleeding could still occur.

Lybrel is manufactured by New Jersey-based company Wyeth.
