Akron, OH - A traffic violation turns deadly after a short police chase ends in a crash.
On Saturday May 26th around 8:30 p.m. Akron Polcie observed a driver commit a traffic violation near Kenmore Boulevard and Carey Avenue, then attempted to make a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed on Carey Ave. A short chase occurred and then moments later the officers called it off.
The vehicle that took off was later found in a vacant lot near Carey Ave. and 27th Street all smashed up.
The preliminary investigation indicates that, even though the pursuit had been terminated, the driver continued to drive at a high rate of speed, lost control of the vehicle, struck a parked truck and tree before coming to a rest in the vacant lot.
The driver of the vehicle was immediately killed and a female passenger received non-life threatening injuries. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
A traffic reconstruction unit is completing the investigation and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will release the name of the driver, once he has been positively identified.
