Cleveland Suburb Among Most Crowded Cities

LAKEWOOD, Ohio (AP) - There isn't much elbow room in the Cleveland suburb of Lakewood.

In fact, only 43 cities with a population of at least 50,000 people are more crowded than Lakewood, which has nearly 57,000 people in fewer than six square miles.

An analysis in Monday's (Cleveland) Plain Dealer said that 14 of the state's 20 most densely populated cities are Cleveland suburbs.

Columbus ranked 32nd with its more than 700,000 residents spread over an area nearly three times the size of Cleveland.

Demographers said that suburbs will get more tightly packed in the future as the number of singles and elderly joined married couples with children in living outside the big cities.
