Evacuation Order Lifted From Water Treatment Plant

Cleveland, OH  - A chemical leak at a water treatment plant has been reported Monday morning.

The leak happened around 9:30 a.m. at the plant located at 1245 W.45th Street. A gallon of chlorine apparently leaked. Workers in part of the plant were evacuated but have now been let back in.

Water Department officials say there is a room with one ton chrolrine gas cynlinders and one of the valves sprung a leak. The spill was contained to that room; however, the chlorine is in the air.

All the workers at the water treatment plant and Great Lakes Towing were evacuated. Workers quickly neutralized the air. Chlorine is put in the water to distill some of the taste of Lake Erie. Drinking water is not affected
