Cleveland Still Looking For Airport Director

CLEVELAND (AP) - The last seasoned airport professional to serve as director of Cleveland's airports lasted less than two months in the job. That was in 1998.

In the last four years of Mayor Michael White's administration, the city had four different airport directors.

Aides to Mayor Jane Campbell said that Cleveland Hopkins International Airport's management history is making it tough to get an experienced professional to fill the job.

The $150,000 salary cap also may be an impediment.

Campbell said that she wants the City Council to raise the salary cap to $200,000 in the hopes of attracting an airport executive with 10 to 15 years of experience.

The council's aviation committee approved the plan last week and the full council could vote on it as early as Monday.
