Eastlake Approves Funding For Minor-League Ballpark

EASTLAKE, Ohio (AP) - The Eastlake City council has approved plans to borrow $8 million to build a 6,500-seat ballpark (drawing pictured, right) that would become the home of a Cleveland Indians minor-league farm club.

The council approved the financing plan Monday night and asked for bids on excavation, foundation, cement, steel and testing and inspection contracts.

Mayor Dan DiLiberto said the city was close to a final agreement with the club's owner to move the Columbus (Ga.) Red Stixx to Eastlake, located alongside Lake Erie about 20 miles northeast of Cleveland.

The city has spent more than $5 million to buy 30 acres for the construction site.
