Mint Starts Production Of Ohio Quarter

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - It's only a few weeks until Ohio's commemorative quarter will be among the coins jangling in pockets across America.

On Monday, U.S. Mint facilities in Philadelphia and Denver began producing the quarter. Mint spokesman Matt Kilbourne said that between 700 million 800 million Ohio quarters will be made over the next 10 weeks.

Richard Frost of Hartville Coin and Jewelry in Stark County said that he's already taken orders for 250,000 Ohio quarters.

The Ohio quarter has an aviation theme, with images of an astronaut and a 1905 airplane designed by the Wright brothers, and the slogan "Birthplace of aviation pioneers."

The quarters can be ordered through the U.S. Mint starting on March 11. It will officially be unveiled in a March 18 ceremony in Dayton.
