Cleveland, OH - Michael McGrath, Chief of the Cleveland Division of Police, is asking for the public's help in locating a male wanted in the June 30 attack of a 60 year old laundry worker which was caught on tape. The widely seen video, released to the media on Thursday, July 19, was instrumental in identifying 25 year old James R. Riddle of Maple Heights as the assailant in the early morning attack which was thwarted by the victim who refused to be raped.
Cleveland Police Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit detectives have secured an arrest warrant for Kidnapping for Riddle who is a registered Sexual Predator and who was released from prison in April following a three year incarceration for sexual battery.
Riddle is known to frequent Cleveland's Slavic Village neighborhood and has previously lived at addresses in Parma and North Olmstead. He registered as a Sexual Predator at a Maple Heights address with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office the day the video of his attack was released to the public. Riddle was identified as a result of the video released to the public. Many people, including prison staff that recognized Riddle after supervising him at the Lorain Correctional Institute before his April release, came forward with information which helped detectives get a warrant for Riddle's arrest.
