Rare Flower Causes Big Stink

CLEVELAND (AP) - It took 13 years to bloom, and boy does it stink.

The rare titan arum plant bloomed today at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

The six-foot-high plant has a scent described as a putrid or flesh-rotting odor, earning it the nickname Corpse Flower.

The bloom only last a day or so. The plant is on display on the ground floor of the zoo's RainForest.

The zoo joins just 20 institutions nationwide to report a titan arum blooming.

The titan arum is one of the world's largest flowers and rarely blooms even in its native Sumatran rainforest habitat.
