WASHINGTON (AP) - There's a new campaign promise from John McCain: no more pork.
The Republican presidential candidate is to spell out his views on the economy Monday in a speech to the Economic Club of Southwest Michigan.
His campaign has already put out some excerpts. And in them, McCain declares, "Give me the pen, and I'll veto every single pork-barrel bill Congress sends me." He says if Congress kept sending them, he'd use the "bully pulpit" of the presidency to, quote, "make the people who are wasting your money famous."
McCain also vows to eliminate a stealth tax that's ensnaring more and more families. Called the alternative minimum tax, it was designed to keep the rich from dodging taxes, but because of bracket creep, it's starting to hit (m) millions of middle-income taxpayers.
