Sales Tax Raised in Wake of Medical Mart Proposal

Cleveland, OH - New details in efforts to bring a highly-touted Medical Mart to Cleveland.

County Commissioners voted to raise the sales tax by a quarter of a penny.

The tax will bring the total sales tax to 7.75% - and would help foot the bill for a Convention Center.

Merchandise Mart Properties says it won't create a Medical Mart in Cleveland without a new convention center that would provide space for permanent showrooms to display and sell medical technology and equipment.

Voters can force the issue to the ballot box - but only if they can gather more than 45,000 signatures in 30 days.
