Drug Bust: 500 Pounds of Marijuana Seized

Summit County, OH - The Summit County Sheriff, Drew Alexande,r announced Monday that four people were arrested in connection with a alocal marijuana trafficking organization.

In an operation conducted by the Summit County Drug Unit, the DEA and Illinois State Police more than 500 pounds of marijuana with a street value in excess of $700,000 was seized as well as vehicles, a firearm, US currency, and real property.

In the law enforcement operation conducted throughout Saturday July 28th, and into the early morning hours of Sunday July 29, 2007 officers interdicted three individuals at a corporate business located on Waterloo Road, Akron.  During the arrests approximately 500 pounds of marijuana, packaging materials, and US Currency were seized.

Arrested were:

-Michael D. Santy 32 of Newton Street, Akron

  • He is charged with Possession of Marijuana a Felony of the second degree

-Vincent M. Umana 20 of Pioneer Street, Cuyahoga Falls

  • He is charged with Possession of Marijuana a Felony of the second degree

-Donald G. Halman 45 of Faye Road, Akron

  • He is charged with Obstructing Justice a felony of the fifth degree

Investigators were provided with information obtained by memebers of the Illinois State Police.  As a result a surveillance operation waqs initiated.  Officers found Michael Santy and Vincent Umana at the corporate business facility in possession of the marijuana.  Donald Halman an employee of the company was found to have permitted SANTY and UMANA to utilize the facility to conduct their illicit business transactions.

Investigators had further knowledge that Michale Santy resided in and utilized a residence located on Marion Ave, Springfield Township.  A subsequent search of the property resulted in the seizure of marijuana in excess of thirty pounds, along with paraphernalia, evidence of drug trafficking, a handgun, and US currency.

Arrested at the residence was

Renee D. Santy 25 of Marion Ave, Springfield Township

  • She is charged with Possession of Marijuana a Felony of the third degree.

The investigation is continuing and further charges are expected.
