Browns Sideline Vital Player For Knee Surgery

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - The Browns say defensive end Orpheus Roye will undergo arthroscopic surgery tomorrow on his right knee.

It's an early training camp setback for Cleveland, which could start the season without its best lineman.

Roye missed the final five games last season with a knee injury and was bothered by a "clicking" sound during the first days of camp.

Coach Romeo Crennel says Roye has torn cartilage. Crennel says doctors won't know until after the operation how long it will take for Roye to get back on the field.

The Browns signed Roye to a three-year contract extension in March of last year.
