Sheriff Vows To Cover Township After Police Disband

NEW MIAMI, Ohio (AP) - Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones says his deputies are ready to take over the duties once held by a full-time police force in the village of New Miami.

The village council voted this week to disband the police force as a way to cut its budget, and since then its 17 full and part-time officers have stopped patrolling.

The Sheriff's office says it's ready to assume law enforcement duties in the area and has already adjusted its patrols to cover the village.

Jones says village residents shouldn't be concerned because QUOTE: "Our help is but a 911 phone call away."
