Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Local Road

NORWALK, Ohio (AP) - The pilot of a small plane walked away unhurt yesterday after his aircraft's engine lost power and he was forced to make an emergency landing on a roadway in Norwalk.

The State Highway Patrol says Shawn Kappner of Maineville was headed from Cincinnati to a pancake breakfast at the Huron County Airport when the problem occurred.

The home-built single engine plane fishtailed when it touched down, then slid off the road and into a ditch. The stretch of U-S route 20 where the plane landed is only about 4,000 feet from the airport.

The plane was taken to the airport, and airport manager Sandy Gordley says Kappner still made it in time for breakfast.
