CLEVELAND (AP) - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday that it will continue to play its men's and women's basketball tournaments at Gund Arena for another four seasons.
The tournament will be this week at Gund for the third year in a row. The new contract between the conference and the company that operates the arena takes the tournament through the 2006 season.
Gund Arena, also the home of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, will block out the appropriate dates on the Cavaliers' home schedule to accommodate the conference tournament.
A year ago, the MAC set a tournament attendance record with 12,172 attending the men's championship game between Kent State and Miami (Ohio).
The Cavs/Gund Arena Company also extended its agreement to handle corporate sales rights for the MAC, including radio, television, signage and promotion for all 20 of the MAC's championship events.
The MAC moved its league offices from Toledo to Cleveland in 1999.
