Victim's Father Attacks Murder Defendant In Courtroom

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) - The father of a murder victim dived across the defense table, swung at his son's killer and tried to choke him in an eastern Ohio courtroom yesterday.

A sheriff and other police officers then pulled the two men apart and wrestled the victim's father to the ground.

Twenty-year-old Antonio Clifford of Cincinnati had just pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence.

Clifford was one of three defendents in the July 2006 shooting death in Steubenville of 28-year-old Joshua Ryan Sweat of Weirton, West Virginia.

Sweat was trying to buy drugs when he was robbed and shot once in the back of the head.

Mike Sweat, the victim's father, stood to read a statement to the courtroom yesterday just before attacking Clifford.
