Ohio Trainee Airman Dies of Respiratory Ailment

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - An airman from northeast Ohio has died during basic training at San Antonio's Lackland Air Force Base.

Base officials say 19-year-old Paige Villers died last week from a respiratory illness. They say she got sick in May, experienced a short period of recovery, but then relapsed.

Villers was from Norton, 7 miles west of Akron.

The base says respiratory viruses are not uncommon when people live close together, such as in a training environment.

Villers was presented with an achievement medal and an airman's coin during a graduation ceremony on July 20th. Her parents attended the ceremony.
