Potato Chip Maker Annexation Could Save 700 Jobs

MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) - Potato chip maker Shearers Foods plans to annex over 250 acres for a plant in northeast Ohio's Perry Township, a move that could save about 700 jobs.

The company says it's maxed out at its current Massillon (MAS'-ih-lawn) location and needs to expand. If the annexation doesn't go through, Shearers may explore moving their facilities to Lubbock, Texas, where the food maker recently opened a new plant.

Massillon Mayor Frank Cicchinelli says he will do everything he can to help keep the jobs in the area.
