Lawmaker Hit By Car during Bike Ride

LAKEWOOD, Ohio (AP) - A state representative from northeast Ohio is in the intensive care unit of a local hospital after a car hit his bicycle this morning.

Democratic State Representative Michael Skindell suffered a broken collarbone and ruptured spleen in the accident in Cleveland.

Skindell says he was on a 12-mile bike ride through Lakewood and Cleveland when he collided with a motorist. He was thrown from his bike and his head hit the ground.

Skindell credits the helmet he was wearing with saving him from catastrophic injuries.

He says he's confident he'll recover quickly.
