Kent Homeowner Charged with Littering For 'Impeach Bush' Sign

KENT, Ohio (AP) - A homeowner in Kent, about 30 miles southeast of Cleveland, has been charged with littering for posting an "Impeach Bush" sign in a city garden.

Kevin Egler, a substitute teacher, must pay a $500 fine for posting the anti-war message.

The city dropped his earlier charge of unlawful advertising in a public place, which carries only a $125 fine.

Egler says he was exercising his First Amendment right to free political speech. He says he should get the same consideration as politicians, who are given the opportunity to move their signs before they're cited.

Egler is set to be arraigned Sept. 6 in Portage County court.
