Coroner: Toddler Left in Sweltering SUV Died of Hypothermia

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) - A preliminary coroner's report says that a 2-year-old girl found in a sweltering sport utility vehicle died of hyperthermia.

The Clermont County coroner issued the preliminary finding today after an autopsy by the Hamilton County coroner's office.

Police in Union Township near Batavia say Cecilia Slaby was strapped in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle parked at Glen Este Middle School. Clermont County Prosecutor Don White says the girl's mother, Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby, is an assistant principal at the school and was taken to a hospital.

The National Weather Service says temperatures in the area reached 100 degrees yesterday.
