Car Sales In Northeastern Ohio Are Up

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - New figures show more people in northeast Ohio are buying cars this year.

Officials say car sales were higher in June compared with a year ago, and they're gaining ground this month too.

A spokesman for the Automobile Dealers Association says consumers are reacting to declining home sales and a high number of foreclosures in the area by buying more fuel efficient or hybrid cars.

The biggest increases in sales were for the makes Kia, Mitsubishi, Infiniti, Mazda, Lincoln, and Saturn.

Sales of Jaguars, Land Rovers and Volkswagen slipped.
