Howard Kaplan Biography

Mr. Kaplan returns to Western Reserve Academy after serving for four years as principal of the American Hebrew Academy, a new college preparatory boarding school in Greensboro, North Carolina.

A member of WRA's mathematics department from 1985 to 2002, Mr. Kaplan also served as dean of faculty, dean of administration and advisor for the Investment Club. He has a strong background in computers and was integral in developing Reserve's computer technology infrastructure and capabilities.

Known for his sense of humor and lively bow ties, Mr. Kaplan can make any upper level math class exciting. Mr. Kaplan continues to be a reader for the Advanced Placement Examination in mathematics (calculus). He is past holder of the Parents' Chair for Distinguished Teaching and a key addition to the mathematics department.

Mr. Kaplan and his wife, Mary Anne, have two grown children, Matt '88 and Erin and four grandchildren. The couple will reside in a faculty residence on Hudson Street.
