Pregnant Woman Shot In Carjacking Loses Baby

CANTON, Ohio (AP) - A pregnant woman shot in the abdomen during a carjacking last week has lost her baby.

The condition of Keisha Lewis, 22, who had been three months pregnant, was upgraded Monday to satisfactory in Aultman Hospital.

The baby died during the weekend.

A masked man shot her several times in the abdomen after she said she didn't have any more money to give him. No arrests have been made.

Lewis' friend, Paul Tarver, 29, was shot in the left shin and was released from the hospital Monday.

The attack occurred Thursday night outside a restaurant.

Ty Hauritz, Canton's chief assistant prosecutor, said it was premature to specify what charge the gunman might face in the baby's death.

The Ohio Revised Code says that "no person shall purposely cause the death of another or the unlawful termination of another's pregnancy," Hauritz said.
