Planning Commission Approves Downtown Towpath Route

CLEVELAND (AP) - Another piece of a 110-mile canal towpath between Cleveland and New Philadelphia has been given governmental approval.

Last week, the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission approved the downtown Cleveland route. It will bring the towpath through Cleveland's Flats entertainment district near Lake Erie.

When complete, hikers and bikers will be able to travel from Cleveland to New Philadelphia along the route of the Ohio and Erie Canal.

It is expected that construction of the towpath will take several years.
