2 College Students From Northeast Ohio Die In Weekend Car Crash

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio (AP) - Two students home from college were killed when the car they were in went off the road on a curve and struck a tree.

Bret Scanlon, 21, a student at the University of Dayton, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Marymount Hospital. Sara Glosik, 20, a Miami University student, died Sunday afternoon at MetroHealth Medical Center.

Jimmy Janko, 21, believed to be the driver, was treated at MetroHealth and released. Nate Petznick, 22, was listed in stable condition Sunday, a MetroHealth spokeswoman said.

The four friends had spent Saturday night together at the London Grill Pickle Works in Brecksville.

Tests are being conducted to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident, said Brecksville Police Chief Dennis Kancler.

Glosik was sitting in the front passenger seat, and Scanlon was behind her, police said.

Scanlon and his parents had returned home Saturday from a trip to Las Vegas -- Bret's 21st birthday gift.

"I'm so glad we took that trip," said his mother.

He was studying business and entrepreneurship at Dayton.

Glosik was a finance and political science major at Miami who planned to go to law school. Her mother described her as close to her family.
