Man Extradited In Alleged Home-Repair Scam

CANTON, Ohio (AP) - A man accused of heading a group of home-repair scam artists that targeted elderly people is being extradited from Georgia.

Andrew Kutscher, 37, of Akron, who was arrested Wednesday in Atlanta, was indicted on 13 felony theft charges and one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity in Stark County.

Prosecutors accuse Kutscher of scamming hundreds of thousands of dollars from 13 Stark County residents. They said one couple from

North Canton paid $175,000 in repairs to Kutscher, on a house valued at $100,000.

Most of the charges stem from work Kutscher did in 2000 and 2001, but his activities date back to 1996, prosecutors said.

Kutscher would approach mostly elderly homeowners, prosecutors said, and tell them their houses needed roof and gutter repairs.

After doing small jobs, he would say he found more problems to get more money, prosecutors said.
