PUBLIC SERVICE: Re-elected Nov. 7 to his to his ninth two-year term in Congress representing the 17th District, which includes the counties of Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana; Mahoning County sheriff 1980-1984.

POLITICS: Known for his provocative speeches on the House floor. Only member of the House of Representatives without a committee assignment. He was denied a committee seat by House Democrats after he voted for Republican Dennis Hastert as Speaker of the House. House Republicans reserved a Transportation Committee seat for him, but Traficant never declared himself to be either a Republican or unaffiliated with a party, as required for the GOP to issue an assignment.
