AKRON, OHIO (AP) - The school board in Akron is backing a sales tax hike in Summit County to help fund improvements.
The increase would generate close to $800 million over 25 years for Summit County's 17 public school districts, including the Akron Public School District.
The city's school district would get money that it needs to improve its 58 schools.
Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic has called the initiative a viable option and said that it's the best alternative to a boost in property taxes.
