Indians Call Up Left-Handed Pitcher

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Indians called up left-handed reliever Alex Herrera on Friday to fill in for the bullpen's only lefty.

The Indians said they would be without Ricardo Rincon for their next three games in Kansas City while he takes care of a family commitment in Veracruz, Mexico.

Herrera has split the 2002 season between Triple-A Buffalo and Double-A Akron. He has a 1.13 ERA in six relief appearances after missing April with the chicken pox.

To make room for Herrera, the Indians sent infielder Earl Snyder back to Buffalo. Snyder hit .188 in six games with Cleveland.
