Worker Struck, Killed While Setting Cones On Highway

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (AP) - A Stow city service worker was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck as he was setting cones for a safety zone on state Route 8, police said.

James Keith, 56, of Cuyahoga Falls, was declared dead on Saturday at Akron City Hospital, police Sgt. Dale Gramley said Sunday.

Police said the truck hit Keith about 6:10 p.m. Saturday while he was setting up a safety zone for Stow city workers who were to clean litter and debris from the highway median.

Keith had just gotten out of a city truck parked in the median when he was hit, Stow Service Director Dano Koehler said.

Police still are investigating whether charges will be brought against the driver of the tractor-trailer, said Gramley, who did not name the driver.

Koehler said Keith, who had worked as a city equipment officer for 27 years, is the first Stow employee in memory to be killed on the job.
