Judge Finds Ohio State Player Liable In Attack On Teammate
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A judge has found former Ohio State player LeCharles Bentley liable in an assault against former teammate Tyson Walter.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge John Connor on Friday granted Walter's motion for summary judgment in his civil suit against Bentley.
Bentley admitted in a deposition punching Walter in the face after a conditioning workout in February, 2000. Walter says his nose, cheekbone and several teeth were broken.
Walter's lawyer says they're asking for damages in the six-figure range but wouldn't give an exact amount. No date has been set for the damages hearing.
The lawsuit was filed just before the Buckeyes' loss to South Carolina in the 2001 Outback Bowl. Coach John Cooper was fired a day after that game, and Walter's lawsuit was cited as an example of the team's problems under his leadership.
Bentley has since been drafted by the New Orleans Saints. Walter was drafted by Dallas.
