Man Misses Court Date On 17th DUI Charge

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - A man who has been convicted 16 times over the past 20 years for drunken driving missed a court date on a 17th count and also faces an 18th DUI charge in nearby Cleveland.

Berea Municipal Judge Mark Comstock issued a warrant Monday for the arrest of Daniel Rambo, 46, after he failed to show in court on his arrest in nearby Brook Park on Jan. 2.

Rambo's attorney, John Gill, said he wasn't sure where his client stays and could not contact him. There is no phone listing under Rambo's name in the Cleveland area.

Diagnosed 14 months ago with pancreatic cancer and given six months to live, Rambo spent four days last week in University Hospital receiving chemotherapy and was too ill to come to court, Gill said.

Rambo has another DUI case scheduled June 5 in Cleveland Municipal Court.

Chris Sestak, Cleveland assistant city prosecutor, said there apparently is "no deterrent for him other than taking him off the road."
