NEWBURY, Ohio (AP) - A canoe with three family members turned over on a lake in northeast Ohio, leaving one person dead.
Byron Prince, 18, of Cleveland, was in the canoe at 6:45 p.m. on Monday when it capsized on Punderson Lake in Geauga County, said John Wisse, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Prince's body was recovered shortly later, and he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Wisse said Prince had been wearing a life jacket but it appears to have slipped off. Wisse did not know whether Prince drown.
The other two people weren't hurt.
Prince is one of two people who died in weekend boating accidents in northeast Ohio. The other is a 23-year-old man who died in a speedboat crash Sunday night in Clinton near Akron.
Newbury is about 20 miles east of Cleveland.
