PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio (AP) - The body of a North Canton man was pulled from Lake Erie near Middle Bass Island Monday night after he disappeared from a friend's sailboat over the weekend, state officials said.
Jason Moore, 19, and his friend were on the sailboat early Sunday morning when Moore is believed to have left the boat on a dinghy, said John Wisse, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft.
The friend told officials he was sleeping and didn't see Moore leave.
U.S. Coast Guard and state marine officers started a search about 2 a.m. Sunday. They found the smaller boat without Moore on the east side of the island, the same side where the pair were boating.
Moore's death is the 12th boating-related fatality of the year, Wisse said.
