Island Ferry Line Sold After Decades Of Trips

MARBLEHEAD, Ohio (AP) - The sale of a family-owned ferry boat line will leave one ferry service between the village and Kelleys Island.

Neuman's Kelleys Island Ferry was sold to its chief competitor in a deal that was completed Friday.

Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line will use Neuman's three boats to supplement its passenger service and begin hauling freight to the Lake Erie island.

The owners of Neuman's Kelleys Island Ferry said it was a family decision to sell after nearly 80 years of trips to Kelleys Island.

The company began operations in 1907 and initially only hauled freight. In 1923 services were expanded to include ferry trips to Lake Erie's islands.
