Ohio State Basketball Player Breaks Hand In Fight

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio State forward Matt Sylvester broke a bone in his right hand during a fight and won't be able to play basketball or lift weights for at least three weeks.

Buckeyes coach Jim O'Brien said Tuesday that Sylvester was injured defending a friend who was attacked by an unidentified assailant early Sunday.

Sylvester, teammate Brandon Fuss-Cheatham and a group of friends were walking in an off-campus neighborhood when the fight occurred. O'Brien said no police report was filed and Sylvester would not be disciplined.

"I'm only disappointed that he goes back on the shelf again," O'Brien said.

Sylvester missed all but the first three games of last season with a herniated disc in his lower back. The 6-foot-7 forward was redshirted and retains his freshman eligibility next season.
