Man Charged In Fatal Boat Collision

CLINTON, Ohio (AP) - The driver of a boat that crashed into another boat Memorial Day weekend, killing a man, has been charged with vehicular homicide.

Bryon W. Czartoszewski, 30, is scheduled to appear in Barberton Municipal Court on June 20. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources filed the first-degree misdemeanor charge, which carries a possible six-month jail sentence.

The accident killed William "Eric" Seelbach, 23, on May 26 at Luna Lake, a private community about 10 miles south of Akron.

Czartoszewski drove one boat while Seelbach's father, William Seelbach, drove the other boat involved in the crash. Witnesses said the drivers were jousting at full throttle, trying to splash each other with their boats' wakes.

The senior Seelbach said the boats made about three passes at each other in the middle of the lake when Czartoszewski slammed into his boat. Seelbach was killed and three others were injured, including Czartoszewski.

ODNR investigator Randal Battista said alcohol was involved in the accident, but he declined to elaborate.
