Off-Duty Police Officer Shoots Backyard Intruder

CLEVELAND – An off-duty policeman in Cleveland shot and killed a man who was in his backyard early Friday morning, Action News reported.

The shooting happened at the officer's home on the near west side of the city.

Action News cameras were on the scene at the 3600-block of West Boulevard.

Police said that the officer was home and woke up to a noise that sounded like someone was breaking into his home. He then went to investigate and found a man carrying a pole in his backyard.

Police said that when the man tried to hit the officer with the pole, the off-duty officer shot him.
