CLEVELAND (AP) - Jim Thome's chances of going to his fourth All-Star game are in the hands of the voters.
Thome (pictured, right) was passed over as an American League reserve by manager Joe Torre but was picked as one of the five players fans will choose from to fill the final roster spot for the July 8 game.
Omar Vizquel was one of five shortstops taken by Torre.
For the first time, fans will select a player by casting votes over the Internet. The online voting will last 48 hours at www.mlb.com. The winner will be announced on Tuesday.
Competing against Thome to round out the AL squad are Boston's Johnny Damon, Oakland's Eric Chavez, Anaheim's Darin Erstad and Chicago's Magglio Ordonez.
