Families In Greater Cleveland Left Without Power

SOUTH RUSSELL, Ohio (AP) - On Thursday afternoon, FirstEnergy Corp. said that it's getting closer to restoring power to 7,000 customers in eight eastern Cleveland suburbs.

Those families were without power Wednesday night because of a transformer failure.

The transformer in South Russell went down around 5 p.m. Its failure was not heat-related, FirstEnergy spokesman Joe Mosbrook said.

Customers were without power in the suburbs of Auburn, Bainbridge, Burton, Chagrin Falls, Newbury, Hunting Valley, Russell and South Russell.

FirstEnergy said that workers were installing new equipment Thursday to correct the problem. He said that people should get their power back sometime later in the day.

"We have extra crews working and understand the frustration the outage is causing," Mosbrook said.
