COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The state's biggest police union is backing Gov. Bob Taft in his re-election campaign.
The 24,000-member Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Taft (pictured, above) as it did four years ago. It also is backing Republicans Betty Montgomery for auditor, Joseph Deters for treasurer and Justice Evelyn Stratton and Maureen O'Connor for Ohio Supreme Court.
The FOP also will back Democrats Leigh Herington for attorney general and Bryan Flannery for secretary of state.
Candidates value the FOP's endorsements because they send a message to voters that they are tough on crime.
